Welcome
My name is Patrick, I live with my wife in the Drumheller Valley which is located in the heart of the Alberta Badlands. This area has a rich mining and agricultural history as well as some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the world. My artistic focus is incorporating pieces of history by using weathered wood that has stood in the in the badlands sun, wind, and winters for 60 to 100 years. Nail holes, grain, and patina aren’t flaws that are used to tell the biggest part of the story.
More than just art
My canvasses are harvested from abandoned structures that were part of the history of the Drumheller Valley area. The character of the weathered wood that stood through the extremes of Alberta's weather for 60 plus years helps give the mining, agricultural and railway history new life by becoming part of the story.

The live-edge maple burl already held its own landscape, red mineral streaks, deep knots, and open grain that suggested sunlight and shadow before a single mark is made . Graphite was used to bring out what was already there, the intent was simplicity. The grizzly emerged from the burl’s natural contours, his form defined by both shadow and the wood’s own figuring, the detail is there for the patient viewer to discover.
